It sets the tone for the year, gives people exposure to training on specific products or solutions, and allows for a lot of networking between people that don’t normally spend time with each other. The relationship between people is where the real work gets done and failing to invest in these relationships is a common mistake many companies make.

People need to have time to get to know each other personally. Sales meetings are a great venue to give people this time and also allow people to have common experiences to strengthen their relationships. It is also the perfect place to reinforce your desired company culture and values. If you have never planned a sales meeting before, I’ll walk you through all the steps and hopefully give you the confidence that you can do it.

If you are a list maker and people have praised you for your attention to detail, you will likely do a terrific job. If lists or details aren’t your thing, you can still do a great job but before you go any further get a dependable person to help you that has those traits. Even if you outsource a lot of the logistics, you will still need someone at your company to drive most of the cross functional details. Any mistakes made will likely be visible by all the attendees of the meeting and reflect back on you – so be honest with yourself at the start if you have the right personality to drive this yourself. If you’ve done sales meetings in the past, hopefully you’ll get some value out of the best practices I’ve learned along the way to help your meetings be more fun and memorable.

My overall philosophy is if you aren’t having fun, then there’s really no point. Sales meetings don’t have to be dull and boring!
